Editing

I do developmental editing and line editing. Developmental editing is working with an author on the structure and content of a book. As a developmental editor, I can work with an author from the beginning of the writing process, helping to plan the book from the author’s initial idea, creating a detailed outline, and then reviewing and commenting on the structure and content of the chapters as the author writes them, until the manuscript is completed. I can also start my work as a developmental editor later in the process, when an author has written a draft and wants guidance regarding structure and content before proceeding with the next draft. Line editing is detailed editing of the final draft of a manuscript for style and clarity and includes tightening the text by trimming unnecessary words and sentences.

Literary Consulting

Literary consulting combines my services as both a developmental editor and a line editor. As a literary consultant I generally work with an author from the beginning of the writing process to the completion of the book, but as with developmental editing, I can also enter the process as a literary consultant when the author has already written a draft.

Coauthoring

As a coauthor, I work with the primary author to write a book based on his or her concept, research, and/or notes. When I work with a primary author from the concept stage, often I conduct recorded interviews with the author and then write a first draft of the book based on the transcripts. My coauthor can then review and revise or takes notes on the draft, which I will review and revise before we do a final polish draft. Sometimes the primary author writes a first draft before bringing me into the process. In such cases, I start my services as coauthor by revising that first draft.

Ghostwriting

As a ghostwriter of nonfiction and fiction, I write a book based on the author’s idea, research, and/or notes and receive no authorial credit.

Screenwriting

I write screenplays in a variety of genres, including romantic comedies, thrillers, and true life stories. I am also available to revise preexisting scripts and to do production rewrites.
